A little update~
Time has flown by and it usually does that when you are busy~
Well I have great news of Marigold's For the Love of Applique quilt. It was accepted into the O'Canada exhibit in Chicago, Illinois~ only 22 quilts were accepted and ours was one of them!!
I sent it off to Houston on April 15th and tracking told me it had arrived about 10 days later. Those in charge of the O'Canada exhibit will forward it from there to Chicago where it will be shown at the International Quilt Festival ending June 23rd. From there it will go on tour and be returned to us in Nov/Dec of 2013.
What a wonderful life our quilt has had!
We are currently working on another group quilt~ the Chapter Challenge issued by our new President of TAS, Elizabeth Nordlund of Gibsons, B.C. The quilt must be a Baltimore Album 48 x48 done in primary colours and green~ the colours of our TAS emblem~ and must be postmarked Sept. 1 or earlier.
Due to meeting only once a month the challenge will be getting it finished!
More great news!!!!
Sandra Leichner classes are nearing!
There are some spaces left in our Sandra Leichner classes as of today so if you are thinking of registering I would do it very soon!! Sandra, of course is an award winning appliquer and an amazing teacher. We are very fortunate to have her here in Kamloops, for her very first visit to Canada. Dates are Sept. 24-28th inclusive.
Registration forms can be had by emailing me at ezalb@telus.net
Do take a look at Sandra's blog ~ a link is supplied right here under links! The latest rendition of the 3 day is posted there. It is very exciting! If you want something more relaxing there are 2 1day classes ~ a lovely rose and a sweet treat called cupcakes!
On another note ~Many of us travelled down to Penticton for the CQA - BC NJS and Merchant Mall this past month. Lita, Pat, Val and myself had our Janice Vaine quilt in the NJS. It was great to be accepted and fun to see it hanging in the Show.
Most excitement was gained by visiting with everyone from all over and chatting over coffee or lunch. Some were participating in the events and others preferred to just shop! The latter was hard to do but we all feel obliged LOL!
Not sure when the next post will be but in the next few weeks some of us are off to Pincher Creek, AB for the annual Fibre Arts Week. Three Marigolds are attending and taking 5 days of Elly Sienkiewicz. It is truly inspirational to be in her classes!
Will let you know what we did when I return ~

Excellence in Applique Award winner - Quilt Canada NJS - Halifax, NS 2012
For the Love of Applique ~
In late 2009 Marigold Appliquers set out to make a group quilt
showcasing a variety of applique techniques, with the intention of promoting applique!
31 Marigolds of
varying experience chose which blocks to work on and put their hearts into
their applique.
We are indebted to
Laura Reinstatler, Angela Madden, Scarlett Rose, Faye
Labanaris, Anita Shackelford, Judy Garden, Emily Senuta and Elly Sienkiewicz for the generous use of their
patterns in a quilt of our own design.
For the Love of
Applique is the proud result.

I can't believe I have been so negligent in posting to our blogspot. Life gets in the way I guess!
I must post today as we have wonderful news that our group quilt For the Love of Applique has won an award of Excellence in Applique at Quilt Canada - Halifax 2012!!
Congratulations to all Marigolds who put their heart into their applique!
I know that I have learned a lot in entering the quilt in many shows now and to reap the reward of a major prize is very exciting for me as well.
The first entry was Pincher Creek Fibre Arts Week in Alberta where the quilt won a First prize.
Then on to the APWQ in Tacoma, WA where it was chosen to be in a special exhibit.
From there it was juried into the La Conner Quilt Festival 2011 and although it showed well it did not ribbon.
We learned a lot from the comments of the judges and had more quilting done on the quilt.
It was then submitted to the NJS for jury selection and made it into the Show winning the Excellence in Applique award and accompanying certificate and prize.
What could be more exciting??? Our original intention in making the quilt was to showase the many techniques and to promote the art of applique. I think our quilt has done us proud.
I browsed the blogspot of Quilt Canada and lo and behold there was our quilt behind the lady in lime green on the left.
From here it will go to Kelowna to be shown at the Rotary Centre for the Arts for the month of September during which time the Kelowna Orchard Valley Quilt Guild will have their Show and Fibre Arts event.
That will be on Sep. 21, 22, & 23rd. Lets all plan to attend!
This has been a wonderful journey with our quilt so far ~ we'll see what is next?

Here it is February already ~ I have a new link for you - Esther Aliu! She is Australian and comes up with some gorgeous BOMs. For 2012 she will focus on a wallhanging size floral applique. Thought you might be interested. It starts on February 15th. However for this one you must join her Yahoo site. You'll find the link to join when you visit her blog. Hope you enjoy~ I think I will try to do this one for sure.
Also don't forget to download Pearl Pereira's first pattern, it's up now and very enticing.
I feel compelled to let you know about applique BOM's. I don't think any one person could possibly do them all but there might be one (or two!) that interest you and it might be different ones for different folks so...... you can make your choices. There is always the option of saving the patterns to a folder for later!
We have some very talented designers out there who are very generous in sharing their talents. We are so lucky, so don't forget to respect copyright and direct your friends who are interested to the designers site. Do not duplicate patterns for others and if showing your finished quilt be sure to mention the designer.
